B) Why Bolivia?
The purpose of this website is to make available the information leading up to; during; and after our mission trip to Bolivia. Our family planned on being in Bolivia for 1 year (08/07 to 08/08) but, now we have felt led to stay for at least two more years. We began by ministering Christ’s love in two different orphanges. Now we have opened an orphanage for special needs children in our home, working in conjuction with Casa de Amor. We believe that Jesus Christ is the answer to every need that anyone has. We intend to model Jesus’s compassion and mercy in a tangible way to the children of Bolivia. In James 1:27 Jesus explains that “…a pure form of religion is to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” We feel the Lord calling us to that at this time and we want to be obedient. We also put some other information on this site for interest like photos and links to other mission groups or ministries that we have worked with and found to be organizations of integrity. God bless you. The Alseth Family
I want to go to Bolivia primarily to serve people less fortunate than ourselves. Having worked 23 years in the semi-conductor industry has proven to be a blessing and has indeed provided provision for our family, however I feel like now would be a good time to do something with my family that will more directly help mankind in general and not just us. I would like my children to know and to experience how much of the world really lives in poverty. Particualrly in being able to work with orphans we can do whatever is required to meet their need and to show them love and that in turn can make a huge impact in these little person’s lives. I want them to know that even if they don’t have a natural father they have a heavenly Father that is concerned about them, loves them, and is able to sustain them. God’s word is clear to not neglect the orphans and this just feels like the right thing to do. Being able to serve others as a family will also build character in us and that is something that money cannot buy.
-Rick
I want to go to Bolivia to share with people God’s love! I want to share with those in great need how God can meet their needs. I want to serve those who are weary and tired by physically going and ministering to them. I want to hug and kiss, hold and love, all of those little ones in the orphanages who don’t have anyone to care for them. I want to show them that they are special and that they have value–that God has created them and He loves them. I want to be Jesus’s hands extended to the hurting and lost children in Bolivia.
-Kathy
I believe that God has called me to foreign missions – particularly in Latin America. This is just the beginning of how He will bless me and fulfill His purposes in my life. I can’t wait!

What They Do
-A Poem by Micaela Alseth
A hammer and nail
A piercing scream,
A prayer
The pain, like no other
Pain
Answers with a salty,
Blood-strangled cry.
Fragile life
Shatters like glass,
Shards flying in all directions.
Horror crawling up his arm
In a red, gaping abyss
Oh, that darkness
Would close his eyes
Now
When his thoughts flee like shadows
From the hammer
Ready to strike.
Suffering will have his revenge,
on this broken,
Prince
Of healing.
A hammer and a nail
A groan of misery
A prayer,
Can the pain of a thousand
Deaths
Divide? Between two wrists
Is stretched.
Leering demons taunt,
Their faces red with blood:
The blood of men,
The blood of sin.
Ripping to shreds
The last semblance of
Hope.
Shrieking in his spirit’s ear
To dispel
The purpose, desperately
Clinging to his mind’s
Farthest reaches.
Still he struggles,
Still he writhes,
Against their chains and bonds.
A hammer and a nail,
A dive into warm flesh
A sullied white rag
of innocence,
Spattered with blood.
He winces,
Only thorns give him comfort,
Digging their sympathy
Into his brow.
The sting of sweat,
And the contempt
Of his tormentors,
His children.
Spitting upon his wounds
In derision.
Why?
Can they not see?
The terrible, abiding love
Springing from his eyes
In tears
Of blood.
The savior is nailed to the cross.
A tongue, dry as sand,
A cup of vinegar
A laugh
To increase his suffering
And pain.
The air seems to be avoiding
His gasps
As he is lifted,
His cross a beacon
Toward heaven.
Mocking, they scream insults
As he feels his body swelling.
Still, he remembers.
Still he does not curse
As the thief.
Paradise?
Could it be a dream?
Another torment to endure?
And yet he calls out,
A desperate cry rasping across his salty throat.
Forgive them, Father. They know not
What they do.
I want to go on this mission trip because I know people will be ministered to and God will be glorified. I also want to go because I believe God is calling our family to further His kingdom by leading people to belief in Christ Jesus. I realize that Bolivia is a lost country, needing leadership and help, and by giving them Jesus they will have both.
Judah, Age 12
Ever since I was a little girl my parents have taken me to church and helped me to understand the Bible, God, and Jesus. When I was 7 or 8 I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior and got baptized when I was 10. God is really Great! He hears you, forgives you, and protects you. He will always love you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. (Deut. 31:6) Some people in Bolivia, and in all the world, don’t know that Jesus died on the cross for their sins; and if they accept Jesus as their Savior, they will live with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. So, I want to go on this mission trip to Bolivia, to tell others about Jesus.
Shekkinah, Age 11
I’m going to Bolivia because I have joy in my heart. Nothing or nobody can take this joy away from me. I have this joy because I know I’m going to heaven. I want to share this joy with everyone so they will, not only have joy, but go to heaven with that joy. I hate hearing about people who just sit around doing nothing because they are sad or poor. I want to give them Jesus which is the cure for their sadness and poverty. And if God is opening the door for us to go, by golly, let’s go!
